Screen Printing & Letterpress

"Catch Me If You Can"
This screen print was the final product of a shortened, 4 week class that covered laser cutting, screen printing and letterpress. The design began with a drawing which was then rendered digitally before being laser cut into a stencil. After exposing our light-sensitive emulsion with our designs, we created 25 prints that were run through the letterpress and printed with woodblock type.
The inspiration behind this design came from a desire to experiment with how much detail I could render through the process. These prints are relatively complex in structure, so I certainly learned a great deal about applying even pressure, mixing the proper quantity of ink and choosing the best squeegee for pulling. The end result was 25 decent prints, which was made possible through the long process of trial and error that resulted in many misprints. However, these misprints got recycled into hand stitched sketchbooks that we bound together with the coptic stitch.
Limited variations are on sale for $40, email morganbutl@gmail.com if interested.
